Texas State Association of Fire Fighters Endorses Gov. Perry for Re-election!

September 10, 2010

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today joined members of the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters (TSAFF) at the Central Fire Station in Austin to accept their endorsement for his re-election in the 2010 general election.

“I am honored to earn the endorsement of the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters which is a reflection of our shared vision for Texas where brave, hardworking people are free to follow their dreams and live a life of significance,” said Gov. Perry. “A safe, civil society needs men and women like these standing here with me today to go in harm’s way when life turns tragic and Texas firefighters are the best of the lot.”

In his remarks, the governor also recognized the sacrifices made by first responders on 9/11 and honored those who put their own safety on the line to ensure the safety of Texans throughout the threat posed in the wake of Tropical Storm Hermine’s impact on Texas.

“Gov. Rick Perry has consistently supported the issues relating to public safety, and has been a dedicated advocate of health and safety for professional fire fighters and EMS workers across Texas,” said Guy Turner, president of TSAFF. "For his long friendship and support, the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters, representing almost 16,000 fire fighters and emergency medical workers in 170 jurisdictions is proud to endorse Governor Rick Perry in his bid for re-election.”

The Texas State Association of Fire Fighters was established in 1938 and it is Texas’ only professional, career fire fighters organization, representing over 15,000 fire fighter members and 169 affiliate locals. They are affiliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters.

But beware .... a recent September 7, 2010 article, polls suggest closer to a tie:

One survey commissioned by the Democratic-leaning consumer group Texas Watch showed Perry leading 43 percent to White's 42 percent, a tie within the margin of error. The other poll, commissioned by Democratic philanthropist Bernard Rapoport, had Perry leading 44.4 percent to White's 40.6 percent, a slight lead for the governor.

However, both polls were done in the days after the Democratic Back to Basics PAC ran ads in 24 papers Aug. 24 calling Perry a "Coward" for refusing to debate White. The ad also generated widespread TV news coverage.
